About Me
I consider myself as a naturalist and a traveller. A person who love to study nature. There are plenty lessons that we can observe from nature. Look, hear and feel nature. My backpack and my camera are my partner when observing and enjoying nature. I can look further because of my zoom lens, and sometime I need binocular in order to observe more.
I almost spend my entire spare time in nature, finding national park, trekking to the forest, going to the beach or just sit in the park waiting for the birds, butterflies or other animals. Searching birds, make me understand their species, their song, and also their life better. They know when the predators are coming, they are aware of that, even when the preadators are still very far away from them. When I see some of the birds suddenly fly or small kingfisher look up, I know there must be some predator flying near that area.
While in the jungle, lack of lighting and obstruction from leaves and branches make it difficult for me to see the animals. I can try to listen more so I can know what kind of animals there are.
When I become a part of them, they will feel my presence and they will feel that I am a stranger. It will take some time for them to get used to me. I let them to observe me, let them get to know me and they need to find out that I am not their enemy and I have no harm intended. Only then will they come to me and I can then easily take their photos.
Birds are also very sensitive creatures and they are very alert. The bad thing about my camera is that it makes noise when taking photo, it is very loud. It makes the brids afraid and fly away. However, if they know that sound it's not dangerous, they will let it be. I got the experience with Hornbill, thanks to my wife who spotted this Oriental Hornbill. When this bird was trying to get the papaya, he looked right and left and tried to touch the papaya, then I press my camera button, but the sound was very loud, the hornbill heard that sound and cancelled his action. He looked again, observed more, and I know he looked at me, because I was just about 5 meters away from him. Then he tried to get the papaya from his bill again, I shot again and he was aware. After 3-5 times of the same thing, he knew that the sound is not dangerous, so after that, he just keep eating the papaya even I shot so many times. So this is also the answer if birds have ears. When visiting the nature reserves we notice many sign boards to ask us to keep silent because 'birds have ears'.
I like also observe about humanism, learn about their culture and also their way of live. I try to get along with them. Sometimes the barrier is our language differences but from eye contact and hand language, I am still able to communicate with them.
I hope everyone can enjoy and understand the message behind these photos that I have taken.
